The Importance of Relaxation Day

The Importance of
Relaxation Day

August 15th is Relaxation Day!

It was founded in 1985 by a fourth grader named Sean Moeller who thought there should be a day when people should not have to work, clean, or do anything important. (Perhaps he was trying to get out of his chores?)

Thirty-nine years later, Relaxation Day is an official fun holiday that is meant to help you focus on yourself.

Take the day to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and kick back and relax. Do something that takes you away from your normal or stressful routine, or just DO NOTHING!

Whatever you choose to do, avoid stress. If you have a hobby such as a sport, and it sometimes causes stress, don’t do it! Instead, spend the day in a hammock, gofishing, take a bubble bath, drive to the mountains and take a hike, go to a movie, do some gardening, have a picnic in a park, read a book, or simply listen to calming music.

Extend this to your family life by turning off computers and phones to spend time together playing games, taking a walk, or a day trip somewhere.

This year it falls on a Thursday, so why not make today, Sunday, your Relaxation Day? It’s good for your overall health!
