Summer Health & Safety Tips [Bulletin date: July 20, 2025]
Summer has finally arrived and it is now peak season for sunburn, heat stroke, and heat exhaustion. This means we need to pay attention to summertime health and safety awareness.
Here are some tips for doing so:
1)
Protect from sunburn. Wear
and reapply sunscreen (15 SPF and up), avoid peak sun exposure hours (10 am – 4
pm), cover up when in the sun (hats, long sleeves) and drink lots of water
(avoid caffeinated drinks that cause dehydration).
2)
Monitor for heat stroke or
heat exhaustion. Watch for flushing of skin, high body temperature,
dizziness/fainting, weakness, fast pulse, shallow breathing or vomiting. Move
to a cool, shaded place and call for emergency help immediately!
3)
Also remember water safety
rules. Never swim alone, when tired, or
under the influence of medication or alcohol, keep an eye on less experienced
swimmers, and never let children swim without adult supervision.
4) Finally, learn and review CPR (watch for classes held periodically at St. Ann or contact the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.)
Do not let your guard down! Stay healthy and safe for as long as the
summer heat continues!
