The Power of Prayer at St. Ann

The Power of Prayer at St. Ann

At the Catholic Church of St. Ann, we pray for those who are ill mostly in body but also in need of healing of the mind and spirit. While our Pastoral Care department creates three different prayer lists each week, they all have the same degree of importance.  There are no “levels of prayer.”

The bulletin contains names of those who have requested public prayers while the books placed at the base of the ambo contain the names of those who may wish to be more private. These two lists of names are no less important than the shorter list read aloud during Mass of those in the hospital, seriously ill, or at the end of life.

Whether we hear the name, read the name, pray for privately requested prayers, or acknowledge the silent intentions within someone’s heart, our prayers bring healing and comfort to others.  In doing so, we continue the tradition of the first Christian communities who intensely lived out their fellowship by praying for others.

For we know, through the mystery of our faith and prayer, “God always stands ready to bear pain and uncertainty with us and bring us healing of mind and spirit – and if possible, body”.
