Forgive and reconcile for the health of it! [Bulletin date: March 2, 2025]
In addition to healing the spirit, the act of forgiveness and reconciliation can also heal the mind and body. This is an integral theme shared by Our Lady of La Salette when she spoke of reconciling with God, others, the world around us and with ourselves.Forgiving ourselves and others can bring peace to our minds. When we let go of anger, hurt, resentment, or other negative emotions we also reduce anxiety, depression, and stress. Studies have shown that forgiveness and reconciliation may also help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These healing actions will help us to become more empathetic and compassionate towards others.
When our minds are at peace, our bodies may also heal. When we experience forgiveness and reconciliation, our blood pressure improves, our cholesterol and blood sugar levels may lower, and our immune systems may improve. This may result in improved heart health, lessen the chance of heart attacks and strokes, and better control diabetes and other medical conditions.
During Lent this year, look to give, or receive forgiveness and reconciliation. Not only may your overall health improve, it may truly feel as though a burden has been lifted off your shoulders.
And remember, the first step in forgiveness is realizing how much God forgives us. This is truly what Lent and Easter are all about and is part of the important message Mary gave us during her apparition at La Salette.
