National Marriage Week

It is National Marriage Week!                                    [Bulletin date: February 9, 2025]

Marriage is a vocation chosen by many Catholics and like all vocations, it should be nourished and supported so it grows in knowledge, faith, joy, and love.

The USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) has designated February 7-14 as National Marriage Week, focusing on strengthening individual marriages, reducing the divorce rate, and building a culture that fosters strong marriages.

Statistics have proven that marriage matters to society. On average, married people are happier, healthier, and more financially stable. Children do better overall when they live with two married parents. However, marriage takes effort as two people learn to live, love, and grow as one.

A good marriage is in constant need of nurturing and growth. It is important to practice ways to keep a marriage healthy and happy.  One way is having weekly or monthly date nights. Choose a special day (such as the monthly full moon) or a date (perhaps the same date as your wedding anniversary) and do something special with each other. Not only is this good for your relationship but it is a wonderful example to your children.

Marriage is not always easy and many struggle. However, it is important to recognize this and seek support and help through counseling as soon as possible. Programs such as Retrouvaille have helped strengthen and save many marriages.
