National Donor Month

National Donor Month                                                         [Bulletin date: April 6, 2025]

Organ, tissue, and blood product donations are always in demand.  Blood and blood products such as platelets are needed every day to address life-threatening emergencies and to help cancer patients. Every eight minutes a person in need of an organ transplant is added to the national transplant waiting list but sadly, an average of 17 people die each day while waiting for a donor.  There are over 100,000 people currently on the national organ transplant waiting list.

There is no cost to donate and anyone, regardless of age or medical history, can sign up to be a donor. You can choose to be a “living donor” (while you are still living) of organ, tissue, or blood, or you can designate such donations at the time of death.  Either way, you will save the life of someone who otherwise may not have had hope.

At the time of death, one donor can save the lives of eight people through organ donations and improve the life of over 75 others with bodily tissue donations.  Go to www.organdonor.gov to learn more about donating this way.  If you do become a donor, be sure you note this on your driver’s license, tell your family, friends and physician, and include your decision in your advance directives.

Blood or blood product donations may be done at our next Knights of Columbus blood drive on 5/4/25.  Or you may contact Atlanta Blood Services or the American Red Cross.  There is no better way to share God’s love than to donate the gift of life to another person!
