Safe Medication Usage and Disposal

Safe Medication Usage and Disposal                                 [Bulletin date: April 13, 2025]

Using medication safely is key to obtaining its maximum benefit.  Be sure to read all instructions on the label. Some medications work better on an empty stomach while others work better when taken with food or a full glass of water. Also, be sure to finish all medication as prescribed and don’t stop any prescribed medication, such as antibiotics, just because you are feeling better.

Always pay attention to the physical description of the medication which is printed on the bottle.  Since the same medication may look different from one manufacturer to another, this will assure you are taking the correct prescription. Also, be sure to store medication in a safe place, out of reach of children, and where there is no exposure to extreme heat, cold, or moisture.

Finally, never keep medication that is expired or no longer needed. This may lead to accidental abuse or misuse of medication by yourself or others. Please do not flush them into the sewer system but instead dispose of them properly. Here are some suggestions on how to do so:

·       Participate in the 2025 “Medication Take Back Day” on Saturday, 4/26 from 10am – 2 pm at the Tim D. Lee Senior Center, 3332 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta.

·       Properly dispose of medication at the following locations:

o   Walgreens pharmacy at 2464 Roswell Road.

o   CVS pharmacy at 4250 Roswell Road

o   CVS pharmacy at 3905 Due West NW Road, Marietta
