Contact Lens Wearer Health

Contact Lens Wearer Health                               [Bulletin date: August 10, 2025]

In 1508 Leonardo Da Vinci first illustrated the concept of contact lenses. Today, more than forty-five million people live, work, and play with safe and effective vision correction, thanks to contact lenses. However, the many benefits of contacts do not come without some risks.

It is essential to maintain healthy hygiene when dealing with contact lenses and supplies. This includes proper handling and wearing of the lenses, keeping the lens case clean and then upside down to dry when not in use, and using the correct contact lens solution – never using plain water in the case or saliva to moisten the lens.

Because contacts come in direct contact with your eye, it is important to have annual eye doctor visits. And, always have an up-to-date prescription pair of glasses as a back-up when you must remove the lenses.

Please take contact lens health and hygiene seriously. You only have one pair of eyes, so be sure to take care of them. If you do, you may be able to wear contacts for many years to come.
