Labor Day - a day of rest

Labor Day – a day of rest                                             [Bulletin date: August 31, 2025]

Labor Day originated in the late 19th century as a working person’s holiday. It was a day to bring attention to long 12-hour or more workdays, seven-day work weeks, and child labor issues. During the 1880s, the day included marches, protests, boycotts, and strikes by workers.

In more modern days, we have paid tribute to American workers by acknowledging their achievements and contributions to our society. It is also intended to be a day of rest from work, a day to spend with family and friends, and a day to recognize the importance of balancing our lives between work, play, and rest. Today it is often seen as the end of summer - a time for pool closings, back-to-school sales, county fairs, carnivals, and the beginning of fall sporting events.

So, plan some special time this Labor Day by doing something fun and relaxing. Take the day off. Go on a picnic or take a hike. Relax by the pool or watch a parade. Whatever you do, you deserve a day off from your normal routine for the benefit of your mind, body, and spiritual health. Then get ready because the holidays are just around the corner!
