Peachy Goodness! [Bulletin date: August 17, 2025]
Originating in China over 8,000 years ago, peaches are known to be both nutritious and delicious. They are packed with vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants which protect the body from aging and diseases such as cancer. In addition, the fiber in peaches helps with digestion and overall intestinal health.
Recent research has shown that other compounds in peaches may help prevent heart disease by lowering blood pressure, lowering triglyceride and cholesterol levels, boosting the immune system, and may even prevent high blood sugar levels.
Peaches are
available in raw or canned form and can be eaten in a variety of ways – raw,
baked, grilled, sautéed, or mixed into a variety of dishes and desserts. They come in a variety of flavors from sweet
to tart. Once picked, they continue to
ripen for about a week. Once ripened, peaches
can be frozen for later use when it is no longer peach season. So be sure to make peaches part of your
healthy diet all year round!
