Healthy Aging Month

The longer you live, the longer you will live!                          [Bulletin date Sept. 28, 2025]

September is Healthy Aging Month!  It is a time to rejuvenate our physical, social, financial, mental, and spiritual well-being.  The average life expectancy in the US is currently 79.4 years.  However, if you have already reached that age, most likely you will live long into your 80s and 90s.

Here are some ways to embrace the beauty and positive aspects of aging:

1)    Start a new habit – take an exercise or tai chi class or walk dogs at an animal shelter.

2)    Stay positive in your thoughts and conversations and avoid others who don’t.

3)    Learn something new that you always wanted to do but never had the time or opportunity, such as music lessons.

4)    Increase your social activities by volunteering or meeting friends regularly for meals or coffee.

5)    Join a Bible study group, take a class in computers or other technology, such as cell phones or photography.

6)    Eat healthy whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

7)    If you smoke, STOP.  Your body begins to heal just 20 minutes after your last cigarette!

8)    Keep up with health check-ups, including vision, dental and hearing evaluations.

9)    Maintain healthy sleep habits: no napping during the day, keep your bedroom dark and cool, and avoid caffeine and alcohol in the evening.

10) And finally, look in the mirror, see the youthful spirit inside, and keep on smiling!
