It's an awesome job to be a caregiver

It is an awesome job to be a caregiver    [Bulletin date: November 9, 2025]

Each year we celebrate National Caregivers Awareness Month in November. It is a time to recognize and support the importance of family caregiving, no matter whether it is direct care or long-distance support of a loved one.

The goal of caregiving is to assure the best care possible. As a caregiver, you know your loved one better than anyone and therefore you know their goals for treatment. This allows you to make the best decisions about treatment options and better plan the necessary care. It’s important to ask questions, explore options and take an active part in health and well-being decision-making for your loved ones.

Researching care options is a good idea but be wary of the internet. Always make sure your source is reliable. Don’t be afraid to ask friends, family, or medical providers who have experience in caregiving. In addition, do not hesitate to ask questions about insurance coverage. This is especially true as medication coverage and benefits may change from year to year or whenever a loved one moves from one location to another.

Caregivers also need to take care of themselves. No matter who your loved one is, how long you have cared for them, or where you each live, as a caregiver you need support to give the best care possible. Be sure to reach out to local as well as online caregiver support groups such as Aloha to Aging in Marietta and Caregiver Action Network.
