New Year's Resolution: Laugh more!

Laugh More!                                                  [Bulletin date: January 25th, 2026]

Laughter really is the best medicine!

On a physical level, taking a deep breath to laugh increases the oxygen levels in our blood, stimulating our lungs, heart, and muscles.  This increase in oxygen also stimulates our brains, reducing pain, depression, anxiety, and tension.

When we laugh, there is a decrease in the stress hormones (cortisols) and an increase in the “feel good” hormones (endorphins).  When this occurs, our bodies produce infection-fighting antibodies and improve our resistance to disease.  Therefore, laughter is thought to actually boost our immune systems, too!

On a social level, laughter improves relationships.  It helps us bond with others and to view things from another’s perspective, allowing us to be more open and understanding of others.

Best of all, laughter is free!  It’s not too late to make laughter a resolution for 2026 by surrounding yourself with people and things that make you smile and laugh.
