The Sleep / Health Connection                                 [Bulletin date: March 29, 2026]

Good sleep isn’t just a luxury – it’s necessary for good health. When we allow our bodies to rest, they receive the fuel needed to improve energy, improve moods, and foster an overall sense of well-being. Yet, in the rush of daily life, sleep often takes a back seat. When sleep is compromised, so is health.

Poor sleep quality is associated with mood changes, depression, and anxiety. Lack of sleep, interrupted sleep, and even oversleeping can lead to memory loss and cognitive decline.  In addition, sleep apnea and snoring reduce the level of oxygen in the blood which is linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure and stroke. Physical issues such as chronic pain, gastric reflux, or a thyroid dysfunction may possibly lead to insomnia. It is important to understand that poor sleep and poor health may become a cycle that needs to be controlled.

Conversely, when the body is rested the immune system gets a boost, allowing the body to better fight all types of diseases. Good sleep helps us focus better allowing our minds to process thoughts better and improves creativity.  It also regulates emotions and helps to keep stress levels in check. Good sleep even helps keep appetites and energy levels in a healthy rhythm.  When we get enough quality sleep, everything feels better.
