Healthy Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning is great for both your home and your health.  Cleaning behind furniture, wiping down walls, cleaning blinds and windows, cleaning out closets and cabinets, and throwing out old papers and general clutter will make your house look and smell clean.  By doing so, you can remove dust mites, mold, and other allergens from your home environment.  Best of all, a clean home may help burn calories and lighten your spirits, too!

Here are a few ideas to help with your spring cleaning:

1)     Make a schedule – don’t try to do everything at one time.

2)     Declutter and organize your space – this will help you feel better psychologically, too!

3)     Protect yourself when cleaning – use natural cleaners such as vinegar, water, and baking soda, or use a steam cleaner to avoid exposure to harsh chemicals.

4)     If possible, use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter which will help remove allergens from the air.

5)     Change or wash your shower curtain and consider installing/updating a bathroom fan to remove accumulated dust and mold.

6)     Remove and replace old cosmetics which may harbor bacteria and be sure to discard old medications.

7)     A little change in décor, bedding, or linens may add a fresh look to your home and lift your spirits.

8)     Don’t forget the outside – remove old leaves to minimize mold growth in the soil and add fresh plants to bring new life to your yard.

So, get busy and have a happy, healthy spring!
