That’s why July is “Cell Phone Courtesy Month”.
We can all work to bring phone etiquette back in style by following some simple “Dos and Don’ts”:
1) Put away your phone when with others. Concentrate on them and not your phone.
2) Step away for private or emotional conversations.
3) Be aware of your voice volume so that others are not hearing your “cell yell”
4) Pause before sending emails, texts, or social media posts. Will it hurt someone else, or might you regret it later?
5) Don’t handle your phone when driving. Any message can wait and it’s the law in Georgia.
6) Don’t rely on your phone for social relationships. Physically meet people, network with them, expand your world beyond your phone and build face-to-face relationships.
7) Silence your phone in public. Southern Living recently published a list of where not to talk on the phone. These include salons, grocery stores, public restrooms, checkout lines, movies/performances/events, and gyms.
Finally, be an example to your friends and family and encourage others to do the same. Remember, phones have changed over the years, but courtesy never goes out of style!
