Your Donation of Blood is Desperately Needed

Your Donation of Blood is Desperately Needed

According to the Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood or platelets approximately every two seconds.  This equates to 29,000 units of red blood cells needed every day.

The wonderful thing about blood is it’s something we all have, it can easily be donated, and it is so
mething our bodies regenerate in a relatively short amount of time.  In addition, no one is ever too old to donate blood and there is no cost to donate. While it takes only a few minutes of your time, you may be giving a lifetime of health to the recipient. Simply said, blood donations save lives.

Unfortunately, blood products such as whole blood, packed red blood cells, and platelets expire in a short amount of time.  This results in local blood banks regularly needing to restock their supplies. Due to travel over the holidays, there is often a shortage around this time.

However, you can help keep the supply up by donating regularly at the quarterly St. Ann Knights of Columbus sponsored blood drives. The next one will be held in one week, Sunday, February 2nd. You can register in advance, but it is not required. Just stop by La Salette Hall (the parish hall) anytime from 8 am until 2:30 pm.  If you cannot make that, reach out to the American Red Cross or Atlanta Blood Services to make a donation.

Remember, the life you save may be yours or that of a loved one or friend.
