Severe weather is on its way! [Bulletin date: March 9, 2025]
Along with blooming flowers and trees of the spring comes the threat of severe weather. It can change dramatically within 24 hours and at times without warning. Here are some things you can do to plan ahead and be prepared for whatever may come your way.
First, have an emergency evacuation plan which includes a map of your home and designated place to shelter as a family. Be sure to review this often with your family.Second, have a list of important emergency information which includes names and numbers of emergency contacts, insurance information, utility phone numbers, and personal medical information.
Third, stock the following in your home shelter area: a flashlight and a battery-powered weather radio (with extra batteries), a first aid kit, 3-5 day’s supply of bottled water and nonperishable food, personal hygiene items (including an empty bucket with a tight lid), blankets/sleeping bags, and pet food. Also, have your prescription medications organized so that you can grab them in the event you must take shelter quickly.
Finally, always have an emergency kit in your car that includes water,
food, blankets, maps, and flashlights. Also, be sure to have a way to charge
your cell phone in your car since your home and office may lose power as a
result of severe weather.
