The Importance of Breakfast [Bulletin date: February 16, 2025]
Breakfast is exactly what the word says – “break fast.” It is the time to rejuvenate your body after a long night of fasting.
Eating a healthy breakfast may help improve your concentration, give you strength and endurance for the day’s activities, help reduce cholesterol and blood glucose levels, and provide weight control. Studies have shown that both adults and children who eat breakfast perform better with learning, concentration, problem-solving, creativity, verbal skills, and hand-eye coordination.
A healthy breakfast should include nutritious foods such as a lean protein and/or whole grains and not a lot of fat and calories. Some healthy breakfast foods include eggs, oatmeal, Greek yogurt, fresh fruit like berries, whole-grain toast, chia seeds, cottage cheese, avocado, and nuts. Such foods can make you feel fuller until lunchtime and decrease the desire to snack between meals.
Contrary to a typical American lifestyle, it is recommended that we “eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.” By doing so, we will balance our nutrition with our body’s changing demand for energy throughout a 24-hour period. Try it, you might like it!
