How to Become a Centenarian [Bulletin date: June 1, 2025]
Aging is a fact of life. However, there are several ways to minimize its effect on our minds and bodies, allowing us the potential to reach the age of one hundred!
Start with being physically active. Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Choose activities that stimulate your mind, body, and social needs. Be sure to stay in touch with friends and family.
In addition, eat lots of fruit and vegetables, and drink water instead of sugary, artificially sweetened, or caffeinated drinks. The Mediterranean diet is especially good for supporting overall health and longevity
Make safety a priority in your home and when in public. As we age, vision, coordination, and reaction times diminish, so keep your surroundings safe. This may mean moving to another home or choosing alternate means of transportation when driving is no longer safe.
Keep up with regularly scheduled check-ups with your physician who is a great resource for healthy aging. Seniors need immunizations too, so make sure you keep them up to date!
Finally, do not forget to keep your spirit healthy. Get involved with your faith and volunteer when possible. With a healthy mind, body, and spirit, everyone has the potential to become a centenarian.
Look forward to celebrating your 100th birthday! Cheers!
