Men's Health Awareness is important to everyone!

Men’s health awareness is important for everyone  [Bulletin date: June 22, 2025]

In comparison to women, American men die at a younger age by five years, are more likely to die from nine of the top ten causes of death and are more likely to be uninsured throughout their lifetime.  As a result, men’s health awareness significantly affects our families, our relationships, and our community overall. What can we do to change these facts and help the men in our lives live longer and healthier lives?

First, since many health issues are preventable, we should encourage them to make regular visits to a healthcare provider for routine exams and health screenings.  These visits should include assessing blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and weight.  In addition, screenings for prostate and colon cancer are important steps to establish baselines and observe possible changes over time.

Second, we should encourage men to get physically active.  While we may understand the positive outcome of exercise, it is often hard for anyone to start, and stay motivated to continue, an exercise program.  Instead of telling them to do it, why not do it with them?  Join a community-based exercise program together or simply make it a routine to take regular walks together.

Finally, we should remind our men how much we love them, respect them, and need them in our lives.  Let them know how important it is that they take care of themselves so that they are with us for a long, long time.  So why not stop by the table in the narthex this weekend for information about men’s health awareness.
