Self-care in 2026

A New year, a new you!                                                         [Bulletin date: December 28, 2025]

Self-care is the first step to making 2026 a fresh, new year. Here are a few ideas to help:

  1. Begin with finding what truly makes you happy and schedule time to regularly do it.  Perhaps it’s reading, crafting, gardening, walking a dog, hiking, or just spending time outside with nature.  Whatever it is, it will help take your mind off the stresses of life.
  2. Regularly unplug from electronic devices and spend more time with the people in your life. Have family game nights, sit and chat with a friend, or make mealtimes a “share time”.
  3. Move and stay physically active. Join an exercise or dance class. This will increase the “happy hormones” called endorphins.
  4. Avoid negative people who leave you drained, frustrated, and feeling down.  Seek out people who are positive and uplifting. A happy attitude is contagious.  Pass it on!
  5. Spend time with nature. If you cannot go outside, sit by a window, watch nature shows, or look at pictures of nature.  Plan a nature getaway that is relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
  6. Donate your time and energy towards helping others. Volunteering will help others and you feel better.
  7. Don’t forget to fulfill your spiritual needs through meditation, scripture study, adoration, or attending church sponsored events.
  8. Finally, seek help when you need it.  Speaking to a counselor or therapist, or joining a support group may give you a different perspective on life’s issues.

Have a happy and safe New Year's holiday!
